Chocolate bar wrappers are beautiful
I’m working on a year long project to create art with them,
you can find weekly updates here.
This week it appears I chose all neutral wrappers. I don’t even know how that happened. I must be feeling a bit down with our below zero temperatures. That said, they looked lovely lined up on the shelf.
I am certainly looking at chocolate bar packaging closer than I ever have before. Sometimes it is really hard to decide what square to cut.
The glue has finally arrived and I put 28 squares from the first four weeks on all at once. I started with day one and made my way through them all. It’s lovely how it is coming along, and its so exciting to see them on the canvas!
I have been waiting for the Modge Podge to arrive so I can begin putting this piece together. Waiting is hard sometimes.
This week I painted the brown base of the canvas. The brown is called Chocolate Therapy, which this project may turn into depend how long we are self isolating for. Learning from week one, I decided that 2 inch by 2 inch squares were to big for some chocolate bar wrappers. So I also added 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch squares into the mix. This allows me some freedom, and will add more interest to the finished piece.
This wasn’t the project I expected to be working on, I expected to be in another country, but COVID happened, travel plans fell through, work was shut down, and I needed a project. I came up with this idea in just a few days, and the first week was all about working out the details.
Each day my plan is to enjoy a bite of chocolate. Take tasting notes on it as well. Then I will choose a square to cut out of the chocolate bar wrapper. 365 Chocolate Squares in a year.
Things I learnt this week: getting supplies right now is going to take awhile, 2 inch squares are too big sometimes, chocolate wrappers are beautiful, it is hard to choose just one a day.
